United Way of North Central Florida (formerly UW of Alachua County)
The United Way of North Central Florida was at a critical point in its life cycle. The organization had experienced modest increases in its annual fundraising each year. The organization craved a greater sense of the understanding from its donor base… why do they give and what did they think of the United Way as a leader in the community.
With a new CEO at the helm, the organization turned to Strategists, Inc. to provide many months of ongoing strategic counsel. Services included board development training, research and the facilitation of several Strategic Planning/Governance sessions.
Research services included the development, execution and analysis of quantitative and qualitative survey instruments gaining input from many different stakeholder groups.
United Way CEO Karen Bricklemyer said, “Debbie Mason was central in our recent Strategic Planning/Governance process providing our board with the opportunity to step back review history, success etc., as well as look forward. Debbie helped our board realize our organization was at a ‘tipping point’ and needed to change. With Debbie’s guidance our board has positioned this organization to create sustained change in our community."
Wm. Thies & Sons Employee Opinion Study
Wm. Thies & Sons was the eighth largest beer distributor in the country;
with four branches servicing 11 counties in Florida. SI's president conducted
an operations review of the company and developed a multi-year process of measuring
employee perceptions and opinions. We developed and implemented a series of
written survey tools and conducted focus groups for the client. Roberta Bowne,
Corporate Secretary says, "It was great to get the employees' perspective
of our company. The survey gave us an opportunity to respond to certain requests
and communicate a positive outcome. Debbie Mason was a pleasure to work with,
and as a result she became a valuable team member. Her skill to integrate the
data was accurate and timely."
Nonprofit Resource Center of the Community Foundation
of Broward Community Outcomes Impact Study
The Community Foundation of Broward's Nonprofit Resource
Center was entering its seventh year of operations. The NRC
had been successful in producing strong programming with
high attendance and demand for service. Though the staff
knew their programming was strong, the team also wanted to
know what difference the NRC was making in the community
---- did the nonprofit sector utilized their new found skills
to strengthen their own organizations once they left the
educational forums offered by the Foundation. As a result
they hired Strategist, Inc. to develop a study to evaluate
the overall impact of its services, as measured by specific
outcomes of nonprofit organizations that were directly resulting
from the NRC's programs and services. SI developed an innovative
survey tool to measure the changes in awareness, knowledge
and subsequent behaviors of the individuals accessing the
NRC's services. The research went a step further in measuring
the level of impact from changes implemented in nonprofit
organizations as a result of the NRC. Linda Carter, President
and CEO of the Community Foundation of Broward said "Outcomes
and impact of services can be difficult to measure, but are
vitally important in the evaluation of our efforts to make
a real difference in our community. It was important that
we found an experienced partner who understood the nuances
of research and could work as a member of our team while
contacting nonprofit organizations on our behalf. Additionally,
she guided us to use the "right" evaluation tools
to elicit the information we required. The information that
Debbie gathered and reported to us is an incredible asset
to planning our future efforts and in demonstrating our effectiveness
to our donors, as well. She was a terrific partner and a
knowledgeable expert for us to draw upon for this project."

executed Qualitative Research.
Jack and Jill Children's Center Needs Assessment Study
We have conducted a number of needs assessment studies over the years for a
variety of nonprofit clients who wanted to grow and needed to assess community
support for their efforts. For Jack and Jill Children's Center, the needs
assessment clarified the expanded vision of the Center and validated a new
scope of services. In-person interviews were conducted with community leaders,
potential and existing donors, and focus groups were conducted with clients
and prospective clients. Site and demographic trend research were conducted.
SI's president produced a comprehensive execution plan for the group. The
new center opened its doors in 2003. CEO Fran Payne said "Without a
doubt, the research and assistance provided by Debbie helped our board and
staff prepare and implement a strong, successful capital campaign to build
a world class new facility. The study also identified critical new services
for us to provide to our clients and the community. Debbie's work made a
world of difference to our organization."
